Reading Makes You Look Smart

Ta. Da.

My summer reading list. I have all the books and I am so excited. Last summer I only made it halfway through my list. However, this summer, after taking my writing courses, I have a newfound appreciation for reading, and writing.

I hope you will join me as I plan to explore different genres...travel to fiction to memoir (some supposed) to religious and current events.

I've already started 'Fast Food Nation' {reader beware: you won't want to stop by ChikFilA anytime soon} and plan to read 'A Million Little Pieces' and 'Pride and Prejudice' next while on my vacation to Portland.

Happy readings!!

Like MC Hammer Once Said, I'm Too Legit to Quit {hammer-time}

"It's Britney....and I am back..." ~Michael Scott

My poor blog has been neglected in lieu of time spent by the pool, shopping with friends, sleeping, road tripping...I could really go on. I started my summer vacation with a bang.

After a very stressful and work-filled week of finals, some relaxation was much-needed.

A week-long celebration with Lacey Jean in honor of her Master's degree and my good grades for Spring 2011 (3.1 GPA say wha?!). Those major/minor accomplishments called for laying out, late nights with loud music and friends, movies, good food, and laughing. Then it was time for Lacey Jean to move to Nashville...but no fear, I'll surely see her as I travel between Knox and Memphis.

The following week I spent much of my time behind the wheel. I surprised J. Crowe and baby Amos for her baby shower in Ragland, Alabama. It was adorable and I loved seeing her really preggo! I drove back to K-town, only to turn around and travel with Cousin Hannah to Louisville to pick up Cousin Elisabeth from the airport. She flew in from Japan for her first visit to the states in nearly 2 years. The next day we helped her surprise her parents, who had no idea she had traveled back to see them. It was a great week.

And now this week has been spent trying to catch up to my normal activities.

All that to say, I'm back (like Michael Scott)!

Today is one week until my trip to Portland, Oregon with Sam. One week until we board a late-night train in Memphis with high expectations and giddy smiles. One week until I set out to venture further across America than I've ever been before. One week until I start writing a better life story.

So this week will be full of blogs as I get ready to depart. We have lots of important things to cover...like my summer reading list, some of my favorite things, and a summer-time wish list (Hannah we have to get on it!).

Here's to Summer 2011! Best one yet! (even though last year is going to be pretty hard to top...)

Almost there...

I've been a horrible blogger this semester. Horrible, I say. So I decided to just write a short note to say I'm almost done with this semester...if I can just keep my head above water until Wednesday at midnight.

Also, I am going to be an avid blogger this summer. I'll have another reading list, my trip to Portland to write about, and maybe a surprise or two. Just bear with me until this week is over and I promise to regain control of my blog and it will be all that you ever dreamt it would be and more.

I hope everyone else is coping with finals and the after-effects of what seem to be never-ending severe weather alerts.

My heart is with those in the South who have been greatly affected from this past week's monstrous tornadoes, specifically those in Alabama.

Until next week friends!
